Meet Mathangi Sivaraman

Mathangi Sivaraman received her Associate in Applied Science degree with distinction in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program from Durham Tech Community College in North Carolina.

Mathangi has worked with both the pediatric and geriatric populations with varied health conditions. Mathangi's connection with occupational therapy began when her second child was diagnosed with hemiplegia. Pediatrics being her main area of interest, Mathangi has provided direct intervention to children at Wake and Durham County public schools as part of her academic program. She has also shadowed occupational therapists at outpatient facilities. Mathangi has experience working on handwriting, sensory processing and adaptation, fine and gross motor activities, bilateral integration, and self and emotional regulation. She has also been an active volunteer at the Constraint Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT) camp organized by UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Mathangi loves being around kids and is passionate about her work. She strongly believes that each child is unique and has their own strengths that must be recognized. She aims to tailor intervention to the needs of the child and the family and strives to help children reach their full potential in their own familiar environment. Mathangi sees great value in family and caregiver education and providing strategies to incorporate in the child's everyday activities.

Other than being an occupational therapy practitioner, Mathangi also teaches classical music in her music school, where she works with typically developing children as well as children with CP, autism, ADHD, and other developmental delays.
